Sharing Moments . . .

Hi, I’m Jim Wells, I have been a photographer since age 9, when I got my own Brownie box camera. I can remember carefully thinking about composition, angles and how much more expensive color film was.

Now, I am a retired schoolteacher, living here in Maryland, and I am able to follow my love of photography through the seasons. For the last 40 years I have been developing my own perspective with the practice of SGI Buddhism.

I consider myself lucky to live in the Potomac River area and across the road from a tributary of the Rock Creek in the Maryland corner of the once giant Eastern North America forest which was the largest in the world. Going among the trees and creeks around here, one can see how it was such a short time ago by Earth time when these woods were untouched by humans.

I have also found another treasure of inspiration in the ever expanding group of people I have as friends and the all the others walking up and down the streets and eating in diners and such places from China to Main Street. How many faces to reflect! How lucky can a person be?

My third photographic interest has been, ‘street scenes’ which I call my love a of a thing called ‘place’. These places that anyone can recognize and still are unique to our location and age. The old places that make it a 'place'. The fun I can get out of shopping malls and the main commercial roads in our network of sprawls, which always includes the very famous fast food brands and coffeehouses is just not included in my pictures often. I appreciate the individual store fronts like the kind my father had his drugstore in, on my childhood Main Street in Illinois.

I really hope you enjoy these images here while I debate whether the fun I have had taking, working with and somewhat organizing my collection of treasured moments, might ever supplement my income. I can find and make a nice print of any one of the hundreds of photographs I have, especially those from the last eight or ten years. Of  course they all look better in photo lab, 8 x 10s or lager. These images displayed at jimwellsart.com today, are low res and free. In the future, I will have a new site design and display photos on these pages that one can purchase with or without the frames and signature.
